In English

Unilintu is a triangular shawl/scarf, knitted top down. The shape of the shawl is a horizontally wide and vertically shallow triangle. Stripey texture is achieved by alternating garter stitch and eyelet rows.

Yarn: Different types and weights can be used. Metrage/yardage depends on chosen weight of yarn and the size you wish to achieve. I made my shawl with Malabrigo Yarn Lace in two colorways (Paris Night and Indigo) holding two strands of yarn together as one strand. 50 g skein of each color was used.

Needle size and gauge: Adjust your needle size to suit your yarn. Make sure your gauge is loose enough for beautiful draping of fabric and to enhance lace effect of eyelet rows. I used 3.75 mm needles and my gauge was 19 sts / 40 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in garter stitch yarn held double.

Notions: 1 stitch marker, tapestry needle

Abbreviations:
BO: bind off
CO: cast on
cs: center stitch
k: knit
k2tog: knit two together
m: marker
pm: place marker
RS: right side
slm: slip marker
st/s: stitch/es
tbl: through back loop
WS: wrong side
yo: yarn over
M1L: make one left
M1R: make one right

CO 3 sts. K 7 rows. At the end of last row rotate piece 90 degrees and pick up and knit 3 sts in the purl bumps of the garter ridges. Rotate 90 degrees again and pick up and knit 3 sts along the CO edge. 9 sts.

Turn to work set up row (WS): K3, yo, k2, pm, k1, yo, k3.

Row 1 (RS): K3, yo, k to m, M1R, slm, k1 (cs), M1L, k to last 3 sts, yo, k3.
Row 2 (WS): K3, yo, k to last 3 sts, yo, k3.

Repeat rows 1 & 2 two more times. Then repeat row 1 once more.

Row  8 (WS): K3, yo, k1, *yo, k2tog* to 1 st before m, k1 (cs), slm, *k2tog, yo* to last 4 sts, k1, yo, k3.

Continue to work pattern (8 rows in total) as established until desired size has been achieved. Work rows 1 & 2 three more times.

Finishing: BO all sts on following RS row as follows: *k2tog tbl, slip st back to left needle* to end of row. Weave in ends and block to desired measurements. Make two pompoms in contrasting color and attach to opposite points of triangle.

There are 13 full pattern repeats / 13 eyelet rows in my shawl. Its finished measurements after blocking are: 132 cm (52”) wingspan along top edge (not including pompoms) / 37 cm (14,5”) along center stitch.

Striped Unilintu Shawl

To make a striped version of the shawl follow the pattern and work rows 7 & 8 in contrasting color yarn.

The sample shawl was made with fingering weight yarn using 337 meters / 368 yards of main color and 144 meters / 157 yards of contrasting color.

I decorated my striped shawl with small tassels I made using a fork. You can find tutorials on making mini tassels on You Tube.
